The size of your paddle depends on your size, your board and your practice. For the beginner, it’s better to begin with an adjustable SUP paddle in order to adjust it according to your level. If your paddle is too short, you are going to paddle bent forward. If your paddle is too long, your center gravity will be upper and you will have less balance. So, what you need to know is:
Stand Up Paddle board Tour:
For a tour with a stand up paddle board, the easier is to adjust the size of your paddle with arm raised, at the wrist level. Approximately, it’s between 18cm and 28cm more than your size.
Stand Up Paddle board Surfing:
For Stand up paddle surfing, you want to paddle with a high stroke rate to make good speed at the « take off ». The shorter your paddle is the more maniable your paddle will be. This is why you have to adjust your paddle between 10cm and 20cm more than your size.
Stand Up Paddle board Race:
Most of the SUP race boards are thicker than the other boards, this is why your paddle has to be adjust between 25cm and 35cm more than your size.
