Wind Direction- Kitesurfing theories Perth

Wind direction

  • Onshore (the wind comes from the front when you look at the ocean, the beach behind you)

This wind direction can be dangerous as you may be dragged on the beach if something goes wrong on the water. In Perth areas, most beaches are dangerous with westerly wind, strong and gusty wind.

  • Offshore (the wind comes from your back when you look at the ocean, the beach behind you). This wind direction can be dangerous as well; If something goes wrong, you will be pushed off the coast. At some spot around Perth, like Woodman Point, the wind can be offshore, and I definitely do not recommend to beginners or intermediate riders.
  •
  • Side shore (the wind comes from the side when you look at the ocean, the beach behind you); this is a safe wind to practice kitesurfing. Make sure there is no obstacle around you.
  • Side onshore: this is a safe wind to practice kitesurfing. Make sure there is no obstacle around you.
  • Side offshore: this is a safe wind to practice kitesurfing. Make sure there is no obstacle around you.

When you will ride, you will have different riding direction:

  • Riding upwind (towards the wind)
  • Riding crosswind (with 90 degrees to the wind)
  • Riding downwind (follow the wind)
